The power cable may not be plugged in
correctly or the power point may be defective. Otherwise the
xbox requires repair. -
firstly turn the power off at the power point, then ensure that the
power cable is fully plugged in at the back of the xbox. Turn
the power back on then test. Try plugging the power cable into
a different power point. |

xbox powers up but there is no video
output |
The AV cable may not be correctly
plugged into either the xbox or the TV. The AV cable or
the TV could be defective. Otherwise the xbox requires repair.
- try refitting the AV cable. If
you have a friend who also has an xbox, try plugging your xbox into their cables and
TV. |

there is video output but the xbox
fails to boot to the dash |
This can happen if there is a disk in the DVD drive that the xbox
cannot read. Otherwise the xbox requires repair.
- try ejecting the DVD drive. |
|
the video output is constantly rolling
so that the output is garbled |
This is not a problem with the xbox.
The TV requires adjustment. -
adjust the TV's vertical sync. |
|
xbox will only work OK after being
turned off for a period of time |
This is a fault with the xbox.
The xbox requires repair. |
|
there is a crackling sound coming from
the back of the xbox |
The power cable may not be plugged in
to the rear of the xbox correctly.
Otherwise the xbox requires repair.
- firstly turn the power off at the power point, then ensure that the power cable is
fully plugged in at the back of the xbox. Turn the power back
on then test. Do not use the xbox if it continues to make a
crackling sound. If it continues to make a crackling
sound then it is important that the power cord be left unplugged
until the xbox is repaired. |

the controller does not work |
The controller could be defective.
Otherwise the xbox requires repair.
- try plugging the controller into all
four ports and test. Try using another known good controller. |
|
xbox wont play disks reliably |
The disks could be dirty or scratched.
Otherwise the xbox requires repair.
- check to ensure that your disks are
in good condition. Try washing the disks with warm soapy
water and pat dry with a soft cloth. Place them in a
protective container when not in use to prevent further scratching. |
|
xbox freezes during use |
The disks could be dirty, scratched or defective. Could also
be due to a corrupt game save.
Otherwise the xbox requires repair.
- clean disks. If only one or
two games freeze then try deleting the game saves for those games
(located in the "Memory" section of the original dash). |
